Maya Kawas
Kickboxer, vegan athlete
Samer sits down with Maya Kawas, a martial artist and vegan athlete. Maya explains how a book she picked up by chance, and then ethics, brought her to veganism, and what eating plants has done for her training: better performance, faster recovery, less inflammation. They take on the idea that meat equals power, where it came from (prestige, capitalism, the way we are raised) and what it has to do with masculinity, and she explains why she took up martial arts: a woman does not need a man to defend her. Along the way she explains where B12 actually comes from: bacteria, not animals, which is why farm animals are given it as a supplement too.
