Huaida Rajab | Breaking the Salad Myth: Plant-Based Food, Community, and Change in Lebanon

Huaida Rajab

Co-owner, Orenda

Samer speaks with Huaida Rajab, one of the owners of Orenda, a plant-based restaurant in Lebanon. The idea was to break the belief that vegans eat only salad, so the menu is international: Indian, Italian, sushi with a salmon they make themselves, and Lebanese dishes too. Most of Orenda’s customers, she says about nine in ten, are not vegan; they come for the food. She explains why Orenda says “plant-based” rather than “vegan”, a word that scares people off, and how, over six years, she has watched customers eat less meat, ask where their food comes from, and come back for events.
